Your Safety And Security Is Important.
When does The CI allow whistleblowers?
If you are, or know someone who is, at risk—whether to physical safety, housing, employment, education, finance, reputation, or any other personal or professional interest—by sharing information of public interest, you may qualify as a whistleblower.
As a business operating in the State of Indiana, both you and The CI are protected under state law. Specifically, Indiana Code § 34-46-4-2 provides absolute protection for the identity of a newsgatherer's confidential source in state legal proceedings.
To help us report accurately and responsibly, we ask that whistleblowers share their identity with The CI. This is only to establish credibility and ensure your information is handled correctly. Your name and contact details will never be published or shared. We just need to understand who you are, your connection to the situation, and any risks you might face if your report were linked to you. This helps us protect you while keeping our reporting truthful. The CI will never disclose whistleblower information under any circumstances.
I've signed an NDA or Non-Compete, can I still be a whistleblower?
DISCLAIMER: The CI is not a law firm, and this is not legal advice. For guidance specific to your situation, please consult a qualified attorney.
In Indiana, NDAs and Non-Compete agreements do not protect illegal actions. If you believe that your company, organization, or group is engaging in illegal activity, you are legally allowed to report it to local authorities and media outlets like The CI—even if the information is technically covered by an NDA or Non-Compete. However, it is unlawful to disclose business information unrelated to the illegal activity.

Will my story be published?
To ensure journalistic integrity, before a whistleblower's story can be considered for publication, The CI needs to know...
- Your name,
- Your email address,
- Why you're remaining anonymous,
- What's going on, and
- Accurate, reputable information to prove what's going on.
The CI does not publish insider knowledge or trade secrets, unless said knowledge or secrets are illegal, in which it can legally be published.
In some circumstances, The CI may need more information to verify a claim before a story can be published. If this is the case, you'll get an email back from us.
While The CI makes a good faith effort to read all emails, sometimes, we can't get to everything.
