Jim Irsay, Colts owner, dies at 65

    INDIANAPOLIS - Jim Irsay, longtime owner of the Indianapolis Colts, died Wednesday at age 65, the team announced.

    In a statement, the team said Irsay "passed away peacefully in his sleep this afternoon." The team expressed sympathies to Irsay's family and noted his generosity and philanthropy

    Irsay became the youngest general manager in Colts history in 1984 when the team moved from Baltimore to Indianapolis. He took sole ownership in 1997 and helped guide the team to multiple division titles and a Super Bowl championship in 2007.

    "Jim’s dedication and passion for the Colts, his generosity, and his love for his family were unsurpassed," the team said. "He will be deeply missed."

    Irsay was also known for his philanthropy and passion for music, often sharing his band and personal memorabilia collection with fans across the country.
