MUNCIE, Ind. - A water main break has forced the closure of a portion of South Hackley Street, the City of Muncie announced today in a Facebook post.
"Due to a water main break, South Hackley from East Charles Street to East Seymour Street is currently blocked. Please avoid the area," the post said.
The closure covers about 0.1 mile, or roughly 500 feet, according to directions from Google Maps.
A water main break occurs when an underground pipe carrying water bursts or cracks, often causing flooding, traffic disruptions and possible water service issues for nearby residents. City crews are typically dispatched to repair the break and assess any damage to the surrounding roadway.
No timeline was given for when the affected section of South Hackley Street will reopen.
